On Thursday morning, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, located just north of Detroit, became the scene of an active shooter event that commenced around 7:08 a.m. Panic ensued as reports emerged that an individual had discharged a firearm in the hospital’s parking garage.
The shooter, who was later identified as a hospital employee, shot a 25-year-old colleague twice in the arm. The injured individual was promptly transported to the emergency department, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
The incident prompted an immediate lockdown of the hospital. Law enforcement, including police, SWAT teams, ATF agents, drones, and canine units, responded to the situation. Nearby schools and neighborhoods were instructed to shelter in place.
Authorities quickly clarified that the shooting was not random but rather a targeted act stemming from a personal conflict between the suspect and the victim. The shooter fled the scene in a vehicle, prompting a regional search operation.
By 9:30 a.m., police apprehended the suspect at a residence in Macomb Township. He was taken into custody without resistance. Surveillance and data tracking enabled authorities to locate him swiftly.
Operations at the hospital were temporarily disrupted but resumed later that morning after the site was deemed secure. Emotional and logistical support was provided to both staff and patients.
